Since 2005, we have offered Chinese language classes to non-heritage children
to learn Mandarin as a second language.
The classes focus on Chinese daily-use language, functional for daily life,
conversational based system.

•        Beginners are welcome in our beginner class.  Children with Mandarin experience may take a
placement test to be placed in our level 1 class.

           This class is open to the students in Landels Elementary School only

                                   Tuesdays and Fridays, 3 pm - 4:30 pm

Beginner Chinese, a yearlong class to prepare students for the Level one class

  • Basic pronunciation, songs, conversations, Chinese words.
  • Hands on learning
  • The goal of this class:  To be able to accurately articulate the pronunciation of Chinese language,
    reading, singing songs with tone accuracy.  Speaking, listening and response in Chinese (two way
    conversation), build up with vocabulary, 60 HanZi characters introduced.
  • Read aloud with story books.
  • Textbook:  Creative Learning Foundation Class Book for Beginners
  •  Better Chinese:  Sing with Better Chinese music CD

Level I Chinese, a yearlong class to prepare students for the Level II class

  •  More pronunciation with PINYIN Phonetic system, songs, conversations, learn more Chinese words,
    and read aloud.
  • The goal of this class:  Accurate pronunciation, learn Chinese rhymes and songs, speaking, listening
    and two way conversation with daily used language, reading, sing songs with tonal accuracy. Two way
    conversation with various sentence structures.
  • 40 HanZi characters introduced.
